From the vibrant meadows hidden beneath the waves to the vital “banquettes” on our shores, seagrass plays an ecosystem superhero role.

The Greek Islands Seagrass Alliance (GISA) is on a mission to educate everyone – from curious kids to seasoned sailors – about just how important these green champions are. We are talking about nurseries for baby fish, powerful carbon absorbers (even more than the Amazon!), and natural water filters! GISA aspires to be the connection that helps us all understand and protect these unsung heroes, both in the sea and on the sand!
GISA is an initiative of Cyclades Preservation Fund in partnership with the Ionian Environment Foundation, the Argosaronic Environment Foundation, the Institute of Oceanography, the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature and the Thalassa Foundation. With the support of Seacology Foundation.
Following the event in Athens, program activities will take place in collaboration with local associations in Paros with @naias, and Naxos with Naxos Wildlife Protection.
