With just a few weeks to go, preparations for the international conference “Towards Resilient Destinations – Integrating Nature, Culture and Tourism for Sustainable Futures” are well underway.
The programme has been shaped by an inspiring range of abstracts from Greek and international researchers, bringing together diverse perspectives and a shared urgency around the future of tourism. From governance and ecosystems to technology and culture, these contributions reflect a growing shift in how destinations are understood and how they must evolve.

Achim Steiner (joining virtually)
Senior Fellow at the Oxford Martin School, University of Oxford, and Chair of the Hamburg Sustainability Conference. Former UN Under-Secretary-General and Administrator of UNDP (2017–2025), and Executive Director of UNEP (2006–2016), he is a leading global voice on sustainable development and environmental policy.
Ian Goldin
Professor of Globalisation and Development at the University of Oxford and founding Director of the Oxford Martin School. Former Vice President of the World Bank, his work focuses on global change, technological transformation and the future of development.
Dimitris Vayanos
Professor of Finance at the London School of Economics and Director of the Paul Woolley Centre for the Study of Capital Market Dysfunctionality. A Fellow of the British Academy, his work spans financial systems and economic resilience, with a growing interest in environmental challenges.
Jenny Uglow
Acclaimed biographer, historian and former editorial director at Chatto & Windus. Her work explores the relationship between people, place and culture, including writings on Edward Lear’s time in Corfu.
Lee Durrell MBE
Naturalist, author and Honorary Director of the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust. Her work continues the legacy of Gerald Durrell, focusing on biodiversity conservation and the protection of natural ecosystems.
