IEF Supports a Pioneering Initiative for Regenerative Agriculture in the Ionian Islands with Bio7nisa!
€7000 awarded
We’re thrilled to announce that the Ionian Environment Foundation (IEF) is now funding its second regenerative farming project making the next important steps in our journey to transform how we think about agriculture and sustainability in the Ionian Islands.
This new initiative reflects our commitment to using our region’s diverse landscapes, fertile soil, and Mediterranean climate to offer a great foundation to promote regenerative farming. While traditional farming still dominates leading to soil degradation, loss of biodiversity, and water scarcity, we are working on turning the tide improving the environment and the food we eat at the same time.
In this effort we’re excited to share that IEF is backing Bio7nisa, a non-profit organization that helps farmers adopt regenerative farming practices. Bio7nisa is aiming to transform the future of agriculture in our region, by restoring soil health, boosting biodiversity, and improving productivity. We’re embarking on a new journey with Bio7Nisa that brings together education, innovation, and community engagement.
Here’s what’s on the horizon:
- Empowering Experts Through Certification
Two new members of Bio7nisa will undergo specialized training and get certification as Soil Food Web Consultants. This crucial step will equip them with the expertise to guide local farmers and stakeholders in adopting regenerative practices that enhance soil health, productivity, and sustainability.
- Regenerative Farming Event in Paxos
- Expert Talks: Engaging presentations on regenerative farming techniques.
- Hands-On Demonstrations: Local olive groves and crop farms will come alive with sustainable practices in action.
- Youth Engagement: Workshops for elementary and high school students to inspire the next generation of eco-advocates.
- Tourism Collaboration: Highlighting regenerative farming as a draw for eco-conscious travelers.
This event will bring together local farmers, students, and tourism stakeholders to celebrate and adopt eco-friendly farming methods.
- A Regenerative Agriculture Demo Site in Corfu
Corfu is set to become a hub for learning and inspiration. We’re creating a public demo site that features composting innovations, regenerative farming, and a circular economy approach. The site will also serve as a unique educational venue and a beacon for sustainable tourism.
Why This Matters:
With IEF’s funding and collaborative efforts, we’re not only advancing regenerative agriculture but also fostering a shared commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development across the Ionian Islands.
Stay tuned for updates, event dates, and ways to get involved. Together, we’re planting the seeds for a brighter, greener future
