Celebrating 5 Years of IEF’s Impact! 

As we celebrate 5 incredible years of the Ionian Environment Foundation, we reflect on the amazing projects and partnerships that have shaped our journey. In 2024, we achieved a significant milestone by becoming a recognized Greek foundation, enhancing our collaboration with local communities and advancing our mission to protect the Ionian region. 

Newsletter Highlights 

Wrapping Up 2024’s Sustainability Efforts  

We supported key projects like Posidonia seagrass protection with iSEA, the Ionian Dolphin Project, and monk seal research with Archipelagos Environment & Development NGO. The second phase of Sustainable Sailing Greece concluded successfully, effectively engaging and educating local stakeholders on sustainable sailing practices. 

Educational Outreach Officer 
In partnership with the Capodistrias Museum and Corfu Butterfly Conservation, we introduced Anne Sordina as our outreach educational officer. We’ve also supported butterfly conservation in response to Corfu’s 2023 wildfires. 

New Team Member 
We welcomed Alexandra Thoma as our new Communications and Fundraising Coordinator, bringing her passion and expertise to strengthen our ties with local communities. 

Albania Overboard Success 
The 2024 charity swim raised a record €45,000, with over 100 swimmers joining the cause. Coverage by Purple Productions will be featured on Channel 5 and BBC. 

New Grants 
New projects like the Arion Marine Mammal Strandings Response Network and the Bio7nisa regenerative farming project aim to tackle local environmental challenges. 

Coming Up 
We’re preparing to celebrate Gerald Durrell’s 100th anniversary with events in Corfu, honouring his conservation legacy.
